Not being able to detach yourself from your work, even when you are physically away from your workplace, increases productivity for a short time. On the other hand, “working after work” also yields higher stress levels, which may lead to lower job performance, fatigue and sleep disorders. This is the reason why a lot of global companies are changing the way of doing business. It is interesting that Volkswagen turns off certain employees’ e-mails 30 minutes after their quitting time and BMW is implementing a new rule that will guard employees from being contacted after working hours.
